#5 A rare outing...

Today was an especially special day. The reason was because my family actually had one of those rare and special, ‘family outing’. Why do I classify it as rare? Well, it’s the fact that we haven’t had one for a tremendously long time. Anyways, onwards to the main course.
The story unfolds in the evening, when my father told us that since Chinese New Year was nearing, he had decided to bring us to our favorite restaurant, Fish and co., to enjoy the scrumptious seafood there, followed up by a trip to the cinema, Golden Village, to watch the newly released ‘Green Hornet’.

We reached the restaurant in little more than fifteen minutes at the Tampines mall. While waiting, there were the usual jokes and puns that my father dished out to both annoy and amuse us, and my sister would be smacking him playfully for making some random comment she didn’t like. My mother was tactfully ignoring them until my father poked fun at her, in which she responded with a ‘friendly’ pinch. Ahhhh, we hadn’t had a dinner, with all of us here and eating out at a restaurant we all enjoyed dining at, for such a very long time due to work causes for my parents and the metre high pile of school work for me and my sister. It was simply bliss to, just for a small moment, be able to smile and laugh with my family, to forget our troubles and worries and stress and have a happy moment with our loved ones.
Soon, the food came. Steam rose in spirals that trailed off then disappeared into the air off the mouth-watering fish and chips, which was the restaurant’s special. The tantalizing taste had our taste buds captivated and to top it off, tasty mussels steam-cooked in the restaurant’s specialty sauce, lemon, butter and garlic mixed with some special herbs, enchanted and tickled our tongues teasingly. “This is excellent food,” I said, with nods of agreement from the whole family. But… all good things must come to an end, and very soon we were on our way to catch a movie.
The movie passed by uneventfully, well I really hope to that I can have another occasion to be with my family doing something together again very soon.
